Festivals + Maternity Hospital
->Today in the way to the maternity hospital, we encounter a FESTIVAL! People gave us food, and invited us to their houses for the celebrations! It was an awesome experience. After that we spent the rest of the day in the hospital talking to nurses, midwifes and patients!

Finally we went to the MATERNITY HOSPITAL in Nepal… A very eclectic, vibrant place! To go there we had to cross some riot areas, where people had vandalized cars and with the Nepali army aligned in strategic points. Crazy, but we felt amazingly safe. The experience in this hospital was great, and the people there were AMAZING. We talked to senior doctors, fellows, training doctors, nurses and MIDWIFES in training! Many unmet needs coming from these sources!

Today, an “event” HAPPENED in Nepal’s Maternity Hospital, so we were not able to go there; nonetheless, we had a chance to visit the Civil Hospital of Nepal where we HAD a very privileged tour within the hospital. Our guide: a Nepali Biomedical Engineer, who becomes our main facilitator in this hospital! A lot of needs coming from this unexpected and unprepared visit. We meet all stakeholders in the hospital, from the director, to surgeons, anesthesiologists, ophthalmologists, dentists, nurses, cleaning staff, administrators, patients, families, everyone had something valuable to say. GREAT SOURCE OF INPUT!
We finished our visit to this hospital with a traditional Nepalese tea under the monsoon’s rain and a tacit pact of collaboration among both biomedical staffs and clinical personnel in this new hospital!

Our flight to Kathmandu, went pretty great! It was a 2 ½ hrs flight from Mumbay’s international airport in an airline called Jet Aiways. The incredible thing about the flight is that 10 min before landing you can see the Himalayas , which in my opinion is the most amazing view that I have watched in a long time!

Entrance to Nepal was easy, but a little bit slow! Anyways, Kathmandu is an incredible little metropolis that burst with life and bargain deals. We’ll keep you updated on that!

We met these amazing people in the Headquarters of Johnson and Johnson India. It was almost 2 hours of pure intellectual growth.

Business at the bottom of the pyramid, humanitarian projects and imminent collaborations between CBID and J&J were the main topics of the meeting. R&D and managerial wisdom as we have never seen before!

Our flight arrived early in Mumbai, around 12:30am. We’re here with the India group, so there are 8 of us total. We made our way through immigration (see stamp!) and went to grab our bags. I got a scare because my bag came out about 15 minutes after everyone elses…but it eventually came out.
From August 6, 2011
Johnson and Johnson arranged two vans for us to shuttle us to our hotel, so we spotted our driver and made our way to the Sea Princess hotel near Juhu beach. After checking in a few of us decided to venture out into the streets of Mumbai (specifically NOT recommended by our department…………) to the Juhu beach, and then back to our hotel. It’s already apparent from that 10 minute walk that the conditions of living are drastically different than anything in the US.
Tomorrow morning there is a talk by Dr. Sanghvi (Jhpiego) at the Mariott Hotel, and then the rest of the day we will spend sightseeing, before the real work starts on Monday.
goodnight!

Before a decade, Nepal used to be a peaceful country. We used to hear about violence in other country but Nepal was a peaceful country, a great destination for tourist for adventure like Mount climbing, rafting, gliding, natural beauty, fresh environment, trekking and a lot more. Nearly two years back, constitution election was held, and now the time for the constitution making is almost over but these politicians are not concerned about any thing.

Nepal is not a backward country, as the citizens of Nepal are up to date with the latest information, latest technology, the country just wants a POLITICAL STABILITY. The country lacks in resources like oil etc but posses some resources which no other country have. Mount Everest, the highest mountain in situated in Nepal. Siddhartha Gautam, Buddha was born in Lumbini, Nepal. Best experience of rafting can be done in Nepal. And lot more……………
